Barnardos battle funding shortfall

barnardos

Barnardos are launching a new marketing drive this week in an attempt to appeal to the public to dig deeper and help the charity through this difficult economic period.

Up to 40 Barnardos projects are under threat due to a massive shortfall in funding and donations.

To combat this shortfall in funding, the charity has launched a new appeal for the public to help prevent project closures, with a new campaign across TV, press, outdoor and online with presence on facebook, twitter and YouTube.

The new commercial, which launches today is emotionally hard-hitting and portrays a series of scenarios faced by the children and families whom Barnado’s aim to help.

The ad demonstrates the genuine need for the support and services that charity provides; compelling the viewer to take action and donate today in order to “Change a child’s future” and features music from up & coming Irish singer-songwriter, James Vincent McMorrow.

Kaká from all angles

Here’s some fun for the footie-fans, Kaka can be seen in some exclusively online footage which demonstrates the clarity and smoothness of the HD picture on Sony’s BRAVIA TVs. Or at least that’s the idea – you would have to see a real Sony Bravia TV to get the real deal.

The unique feature of this footage is that you can control the camera angles yourself – clicking on screen when you see the icon navigates you to another clip showing a different shot of Kaka.

Latest ‘1984’ spoof casts Apple as the villain

Perhaps the most iconic ad of all time, Apple’s “1984” has been repurposed a hundred times over. But this is the first time I’ve seen it turned against its creator.

The international crew behind DoubleTwist, a media software that promises to put “your iTunes library on any device,” created this animated parody to promote its Oct. 6 launch.

So, how do you feel about Steve Jobs being cast as Big Brother? The open-source community has long felt this way about Apple’s “walled garden” approach to its devices. And with more than 220 million iPods sold worldwide, not to mention the 50 million iPhones and iPod Touches, there might be a valid claim that Jobs is indeed the Kaiser of Conformity.

But will a cross-device iTunes knockoff really end that? Or will it just tide you over a few more months until you can afford the Apple device you really want?

At the same time as the main show, a series of gigs were staged across the Irish capital, featuring over 60 artists playing in 33 venues, ranging from concert halls to tiny pubs.

Among those playing were The Enemy, Razorlight, Fionn Regan, Natalie Imbruglia, Richard Hawley, Roots Manuva and Supergrass offshoot The Hot Rats.

Events to mark the anniversary were also taking place across the globe, with Sean Paul playing in Lagos, while Black Eyed Peas were in Kuala Lumpur. A Guinness show was also held in New York.

Danish video was a hoax – an excellent one at that

A video uploaded to YouTube by a single Danish woman seeking the father of her baby has been revealed as a digital marketing campaign by the country’s tourism authority.

The video (below) shows the woman named Karen, holding a baby named August, telling the viewer she is searching for the child’s father. The baby, the actress says, was the result of a one-night stand with a tourist; she can’t remember his name and is now searching for him through the YouTube video.

The clip which attracted millions of views  was removed following the revelation after an enormous viewer backlash promoted hundreds of derogatory comments. It also spawned dozens of spoofs and responses by men claiming to be the child’s father.

Dorte Kiilerich of VisitDenmark told Danish TV the video is the “most effective thing we have ever done to market Denmark”.

She said by producing the video the tourism body had shown Denmark as a place where women live in a  free society able to make their own choices.
