The Conservatives in the UK have just launched a new website, which calls itself “the most ambitious party political campaigning network of its kind outside of the US”, spent much of its first day redirecting to the Tory party’s main website while the problem was fixed.
The site is intended to be a focal point for local activism, which will let individual users to organise “microcampaigns” and raise funds for local projects.
However, the system appears to have been unable to cope with demand. The online communities editor for the Conservative Party, Craig Elder, said on his Twitter feed: “Sorry if anyone’s having probs getting on MyConservatives – wasn’t quite expecting THAT level of demand…”
An hour later, with the site still down, he quipped: “OK, so when I said ‘everyone get onto MyConservatives’, I didn’t mean all at once. We’ll have it up and running again shortly.”
When is an Irish political going to take the web more seriously????
